Orphans and Widows
Through World Bank and NACC financial support, CANA was chosen to launch the pilot project called Rapid Results Initiative in 2005. This project aimed to improve the quality of life of the orphans and vulnerable children (OVC's) in the Mukuru slum by providing them with adequate food, clothing and medical treatment. Within the given time frame of 100 days, CANA successfully identified and assisted 2550 OVC's and 600 families. These encouraging results not only demonstrate CANA's desire to improve the quality of life of the slum residents, but also showed their capability in achieving this goal. Today, CANA continues to provide care and support to the OVC's. In addition to basic food items and medications, it also provides primary school free of charge to orphans and children whose families cannot afford private school fees.
